The Kano State Government has maintained that corruption allegations against former Governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, remain before the courts and have not been withdrawn, despite the recent defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a report by Leadership Newspaper, the state government made it clear that Governor Yusuf’s political decision to join the APC has no bearing on ongoing legal processes involving the former governor.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Information, the Kano State Government stressed that the administration remains committed to the rule of law and will not interfere with judicial proceedings, noting that all cases currently before competent courts will be allowed to run their full legal course.
The government further clarified that allegations of corruption levelled against Ganduje are matters being handled by relevant anti-graft agencies and the judiciary, and not issues subject to political negotiations or party affiliations.
Leadership reports that officials of the state government dismissed speculations suggesting that the governor’s defection could lead to a softening of the administration’s stance on accountability, insisting that justice must take its course without political influence.
The development comes amid heightened political realignments in Kano State, following Governor Yusuf’s return to the APC, a move that has generated widespread public debate and reactions across the state and beyond.
The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and respect for democratic institutions, assuring residents that its governance priorities remain unchanged.
